What do these
three women
have in common?

They've all had some good vibrations - and you can too!

Yes, that's right - pop queens Madonna and Natalie Imbruglia and super model and actress Claudia Schiffer are all fans of the latest craze to sweep the national - getting fit and healthy without breaking into a sweat.

For they've discovered the amazing vibrating plate - and you can too at your favourite health and fitness centre.

So now there really is no excuse for not trying to shift that Christmas and New Year bulge, and it's never been easier.

Ten minutes on the plate is the equivalent of an hour's exercise in the gym - the only thing you have to do is turn up and switch on.

Then it's good, good, good vibrations all the way with our fabulous vibrating plate.

And now you can try it for yourself ABSOLUTELY FREE for two weeks. Yes, that's right, be our guest to try the latest craze with our fantastic two week FREE TRIAL at Bonners.

If you've ever wanted to find out what a gym is really like but were afraid to try the bigger gyms, if you've over indulged and need to get trim for that scorching summer break or you've made a New Year's resolution to get fit and healthy, now is the time to
get down to Bonners.

Simply ask our receptionist about our two week offer or call us on 01536 420777. We'll book you in for an assessment with our fitness manager Sue and you're on the way to a fitter and healthier new you.

Of course we'll give you a gym programme; Of course you can use our steam room, sauna and spa bath and of course you'll receive a warm, friendly welcome every time you visit us.

But if you want to take all the hard work out of it, of course you are welcome to use our vibrating plate. After 47-year-old Madonna bought one of the machines, sales reportedly soared.

The plate works by giving the body muscles a high speed workout, as the vibrations make them contract and relax up to 50 times a second.
It may feel like standing in a spin dryer but celebrities including Jonathan Ross, Sadie Frost and Donatella Versarce are all fans.

The machine is also being used by several premiership football teams, including Manchester United, and the German team trained with it during the last World Cup.

In addition to increasing strength and toning the body, makers boast it improves blood flow and reduces cellulite if used for 15 minutes, three times a week.

It has been recommended for osteoporosis and arthritis sufferers as it puts no strain on the joints.
So don't delay, call us today on 01536 420777 or call in for a chat and a show round.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

Spree - gym's good vibrations
(This article appeared in the
Northants ET on January 14, 2008)

WITH January well under way it's time to get round to those New Year's resolutions and if yours was to improve your fitness then a new piece of technology could be just what you've been looking for.

Miracle pieces of exercise equipment that promise massive results with little effort, but deliver questionable results, are nothing new, but the early signs are that vibrating plate technology could be an exception to the rule.

It's a simple machine to use. You stand on the plate and it vibrates your muscles negating the need to move them around yourself doing any of that horrible exercise business.

Unfortunately with one machine costing around the same as a second hand car, unless you've got a lot of spare cash, you will need to join a gym to get the chance to use one.

Members who use the vibration machine at Bonners Fitness Centre in Burton Latimer say that time spent standing on its vibrating plate has helped improve their health and fitness.

Gym member Kerry Sharp, 39, from Burton Latimer said: "I've only used the machine a few times but I am already starting to feel the benefits to my fitness."

Owners of Bonners, John Smith, 60, and Phil Balding, 52, decided to buy the expensive piece of equipment after being impressed by it at a demonstration in Birmingham.

John Smith said: "We went to the exhibition and were walking around all day until we got to the vibration plate.

"I had a quick go and it got rid of all my aches and pains.

"It was an expensive piece of equipment but from the response I've had from customers its been well worth the money.

"It can provide the benefits of an hour's workout in 10 minutes and it can be good for people with health problems such as asthma, who find cardio workouts hard."

As well as this, independent research has suggested that the machine can be beneficial to people with Parkinson's disease, arthritis, varicose veins and back pains.

Burton Latimer resident and member of Bonners Irene Coles, 54, used to see a chiropractitioner on a regular basis before she started using the new equipment.

She said: "It really helps my back. Since I've been using it my back really has been a lot better.

"I love it and it's so easy to use."

Using the machine involves little more than standing on the platform and selecting a programme using the buttons, then it's a case of letting the machine work its magic!

There are a number of different programmes which offer a range of intensities and lengths of workout, so it can benefit anyone from young athletes to a casual older user interested in keeping in shape.

You may need to check with a fitness instructor at your gym that the equipment is suitable for you as there are some conditions that are unsuitable for the vibration plate, such as severe heart problems and pregnancy.

However, if you are able to use the machine, with its help, this may be the year you finally honour that New Year's promise to get in shape.

Gym fixes it for John

A MAN who suffered a heart attack but got himself back into shape by taking regular exercise is backing the Get Active campaign.

John Smith, 60, was so motivated after his health scare five years ago that he decided he would not just attend a gym to get fit, but he wanted to own one.

It was when Mr Smith, of Charles Close, Higham Ferrers, was driving home that he started experiencing severe back pain.

The pain worsened when he got home so he called an ambulance and was taken to hospital, where doctors told him he had had a heart attack.

Mr Smith, now retired, said: “Heart attacks come in all sort of forms.

“I didn’t need any surgery, but I will need to take tablets for the rest of my life.

“I was frightened to go out alone in case anything happened – I used to go on long fishing trips by myself but I don’t do that anymore.”

Before the heart attack, Mr Smith had been a member of a gym, but admitted that like many people, he paid the fee but rarely attended. Following his stay in hospital, he started going to the gym three times a week but soon decided he wanted to get more involved.

He is now a partner at  Bonners Fitness Centre in High Street, Burton Latimer, and has urged other older people to take up more exercise.

Mr Smith said: “It’s something people have to do. We are just getting worse and worse.

“You see young people in gyms, but older people need to exercise too. We have some super-fit people in their 70s who come here.”

Mr Smith, who quit smoking the day he suffered a heart attack, is now looking into doing work for the British Heart Foundation, giving talks to other people recovering from heart attacks.

He has also given his backing to the Get Active programme which was launched earlier this month by the Northamptonshire Sports Partnership, and is supported by the Evening Telegraph.

This could lead to a cash injection for sporting facilities in the county if more people sign up to regular exercise.

New to Bonners Fitness Centre

The management and staff at Bonners are pleased to announce that Reiki teacher Theresa Wright,
UKRF TM, SNHS Dip. (Colour Therapy), SNHS Dip. (Crystal Healing), is now offering treatments to members and non-members.

Reiki is an ancient form of hands-on healing. The word "Reiki" is Japanese and means "Universal Energy". Eastern medicine has always recognized and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is essential to a person’s well being.

Reiki is a natural healing energy. It is an holistic (whole body) treatment for both physical and emotional ailments. It works on the root cause of the problem rather than the symptoms and promotes the body’s regenerative self healing process.

A Reiki treatment lasts for 45 minutes to an hour, during which time you will lay on a couch as the healer places their hands on, or above various areas of your body. You will not be required to remove any clothes except your shoes, so comfortable clothing is recommended.

Colour Therapy uses colour to heal a wide range of physical, emotional and mental health conditions. It is an holistic therapy which treats the root cause of a problem/illness rather than just the symptoms.

Colour Therapy helps people understand their need for certain colours and helps show them how to use these colours for healing, health, relaxation and inspiration.

People have used colour as a form of healing since ancient times. From the Atlantian Civilisations, to the ancient Egyptians (whose great temples often had healing halls of colour), to the present day, this knowledge has remained important.

The constant research and scientific studies involving colour continue to prove the significant impact that colour vibrations have on our entire being.

The human body absorbs white light which contains the colour spectrum. Each colour has its own vibratory length (wavelength), frequency and energy. When there is a free flow of this energy we are in perfect health.

If this light energy becomes blocked, whether it be by stress, bad diet, lifestyle, air pollution, or any number of things, disharmony is caused and a state of illness follows.

Theresa uses the correct colour vibrations to help correct any imbalances you may have, working to create a state of harmony and balance between your body, mind and spirit.

Crystal Healing uses a combination of colour frequencies and electro-magnetic force fields to heal a wide range of physical, emotional and mental health conditions.

It is an holistic therapy which treats the root cause of a problem/illness rather than just the symptoms. Crystals are placed around the body to set up specific and complex electro-magnetic force fields to realign the body’s energy fields.

Theresa uses crystals to re-polarise the body’s energy fields and to stimulate the body’s energy system into activity and recharge it with energy, working to create a state of harmony and balance between your body, mind and spirit.

Leaflets on therapies at Bonners are available at the fitness centre. As a special offer, to members only, Theresa is offering Reiki treatment for £10 if booked before January 31, 2008.

So don't delay, call in today and ask for more details.

Theresa is a member of the UK Reiki Federation and the International Wheel of Colour.

IT'S TIME TO SHAPE UP!
The Department of Health says that by 2010 more than 14 million people, from toddlers to the elderly, will be dangerously overweight.

The trend is largely a consequence  of people eating junk food and of leading a sedentary lifestyle.

Health officials are urging adults to take personal responsibility for their weight and on June
10, 2007
, the News of the World reported that overweight patients will be forced to slim before being allowed routine operations on the NHS.

The newspaper claimed the policy - which rules out surgery for ONE IN FIVE adults - is to be rolled out across Britain by the end of the year.
Doctors will ration treatment to patients according to their Body Mass Index or BMI - a formula based on height and weight.

If you have a BMI of
30
you will be denied non-emergency operations such as hip and knee surgery and procedures like IVF treatment.

You will be ordered on an intensive six month diet and exercise regime.
So if you're overweight or you just want to get fitter, we CAN  help YOU NOW!

Let Bonners Fitness Centre help you get back to a fitter, healthier lifestyle.
We are a small, friendly gym where the emphasis is ALWAYS on our members' health needs.

Don't worry if you have never been to a gym before. You won't feel out of place with us. Our staff will help you to achieve you aims and goals.

But don't just take our word for it. Why not find out for yourself. For a limited period only, we are offering a FREE two week trial membership at Bonners Fitness Centre. That's right. Two weeks absolutely free.

To take advantage of this, simply call us on
01536 420777
and book in for your FREE assessment with our fitness manager Sue. She will give you an exercise programme to try for two weeks.

Membership will entitle you to use the gym any time during the two weeks, plus full use of our sauna, steam room and spa bath. Call in for a chat and a look round or give us a call today on
01536 402777.

Bonners - we offer you peace of mind health care at a price you CAN afford! WORK OUT YOUR BODY MASS INDEX: Body Mass Index is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres.

So if you are 1.6 metres tall (5ft 3in) and weigh
80 kg (12 st 8lb) you divide 80 by 2.56 (the result of multiplying 1.6 by 1.6
). This gives a BMI OF 31.25.
If you really can't be bothered with the maths, just click on
www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk, put BMI in the search engine box and use their instant online calculator.
